Head Chef – Glenfinnan House Hotel

Location: Glenfinnan, Scottish Highlands

The Role

Glenfinnan House Hotel is looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our kitchen.

Set in the heart of the Scottish Highlands overlooking Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan House is a historic country house hotel with a busy restaurant, bar and a strong focus on quality, locally sourced produce and genuine Highland hospitality.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a chef who takes pride in producing consistently high-quality food while also developing and supporting their team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the kitchen team, ensuring smooth and efficient daily operations.

  • Plan, develop and maintain menus in line with the hotel's style and standards.

  • Ensure consistently high standards of food preparation, presentation and service.

  • Manage food costs, portion control, ordering and stock levels.

  • Work closely with suppliers to source quality ingredients, with an emphasis on local and seasonal produce.

  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, health & safety and HACCP standards.

  • Train, motivate and develop kitchen team members.

  • Manage kitchen rotas and staffing requirements.

  • Work closely with the General Manager and wider management team on menus, events and business requirements.

  • Maintain a clean, organised and professional kitchen environment.

  • Ensure the kitchen operates effectively during busy restaurant services, weddings, private events and seasonal periods.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or senior kitchen leader.

  • Is confident managing a busy professional kitchen.

  • Has strong organisational and leadership skills.

  • Takes pride in quality, consistency and presentation.

  • Understands food cost control, stock management and kitchen margins.

  • Has excellent knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures.

  • Can remain calm and effective under pressure.

  • Is a supportive and hands-on team leader.

  • Has a genuine passion for good food and hospitality.

  • Is comfortable working with seasonal changes in business levels.
